This Ain’t no Mouse Music” -Review

DESCRIPTION

“This Ain’t no Mouse Music” was a documentary film mainly about Blues music. They follow a man who goes around the country and collects blues records and also records Blues musicians. In the documentary, they describe the history of the genre and how blues music is the basis of a lot of modern music. The main purpose of the film, in my opinion, is to point out how important blues music and culture is important to classic music and modern music alike and also how the Blues has soul, unlike “Mouse music”.

INTERPRETATION

The major themes of this film are definitely music and culture.

ANALYSIS

There were a few things I liked and disliked about the filmmaking qualities of this documentary. I think the film definitely could have used more creative shots instead of all handhelds. The cinematography certainly wasn’t anything spectacular. One shot that might have been good to add to the film is aerials of the car as they traveled from place to place, but I think the film had a pretty low budget. What I liked about the filmmaking is the editing and music overlays. They also added a lot of good close ups to show characters emotions.

JUDGEMENT

To me, the film wasn’t super high quality or extremely moving or anything, and used the typical “documentary style” of filming and editing. As a weakness, I thought the film was a little dry, but as a strength, the film still made a point left an impact on the viewer.
